Hello! Thanks for your interest in our farm! Please read all information before contacting us or sending us any materials. Internship and work-trade position information is detailed below after a brief background of our farm.

2014 SEASON: We have filled two summer positions and have one available, though couples are encouraged to apply. No fall positions have been filled, so there are three positions available for fall as well.

Root n' Roost Farm is a diversified permaculture-based farm. We raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, pigs, and bees, and grow over 100 varieties of annual and perennial veggies, herbs, flowers, fruit, and mushrooms by hand, using no gas or diesel powered machinery, other than a chainsaw and weed trimmer when needed. We have three small ponds and a babbling brook (finishing pond work this year, 2014), a small orchard that we established in 2010, young blueberry, strawberry, and raspberry patches, cultivate mushrooms by log innoculation, have several gardens of varying sizes, 4 hoop houses, and more.

2014 will be our fourth year in production on this land, and third year in business. We have a small CSA (25 shares) through Summer, as well as a Fall/Winter CSA (10 Shares), a farm stand that operates from May through December off our farm on Friday through Sundays, from 10am to 7pm and we also sell direct to area natural food stores, offer consultation services in our area, offer classes off the farm, give farm tours every weekend, and currently go to one farmers' market which is geared towards low-income folks.

We started our farm in 2011 and have expanded from 1 acre (2011) to 2.5 acres (2012 - 2 parcels, 2.5 acres total) and started leasing 18.5 acres from our neighbor in 2013 which we will continue to expand into in 2014, setting up an intern garden and expanding our growth of grains and forage crops for our animals, and production crops for sale and storage.

We're looking for interns and work-traders who are interested in a lifestyle centered around farming and permaculture. Prior experience is a plus, but not necessary, and we welcome all forms of skills and experiences.

We offer a return of housing, food, all utilities (Internet, phone, laundry, outdoor wood-fired hot tub, etc...), lots of learning opportunities and a monthly stipend (only for a three-month internship commitment, paid monthly). There are also fun activities off the farm in the community, tours of neighboring farms, training programs when/if available, C.R.A.F.T. events, and learning opportunities. There are also opportunities to make additional money with us and friends in the area.

You must be willing to work a 50 hour week, 5 days on, two days off, able to carry at least 30 pounds (water buckets, building materials, etc...), work hard / play hard, and enjoy working with animals, soil, and other people.

If you are interested in interning or work trading with us, please email us your resume, three references (two professional farming/permaculture references, and one non-family personal reference) and the best times/dates to contact you back. Work trade positions are without stipend, and can be any amount of time commitment, but we do request a resume and references as well.

After we receive your resume and check your references, we'll contact you via email or phone to setup a phone interview. After the phone interview, we may ask you to come to our farm for an onsite interview so you can meet us, see our farm, and we can meet you. An onsite interview is required for interns, not for wwoofers. If you cannot come to our farm for an interview, we will do our best to work with you for the final interview.

Check out our website for more information about us and our farm: http://www.rootnroost.com. Call or email us if you'd like to know more, but please include resume and references when you do. Thanks for checking us out!
