Our Commitment to Making Education Affordable

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is committed to assisting students and their families in meeting the cost of a college education.  All students applying to the univeristy are encouraged to apply for federal financial aid.  The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only application used to apply for financial aid at UMass Amherst.  The FAFSA form is available electronically at www.fafsa.gov.  Please note that you do not need to be admitted to the university before submitting the FAFSA.

Apply Using FAFSA

You can apply online at www.fafsa.gov starting October 1 of the year prior to to the school year for which you plan to attend.  For the school year starting September 2022, the FAFSA form opens October 1, 2021.  For maximum consideration, the FAFSA must be filed before the UMass priority date of March 1, 2022.  Because federal funds are assigned to applications on a rolling basis, there is definitely an advantage to completing your FAFSA form as soon after October 1 as possible.

School Code for FAFSA

In completing the FAFSA, be sure to list the University of Massachusetts Amherst using school code 002221.
