12:30PM Return to the John Olver Design Building

In 2013, we began using 75 acres of land immediately north of the Amherst campus as an easily accessible Agricultural Learning Center.  The Center is home to the Student Farming Enterprise and the Utility Arboretum.  Tour the newly moved/restored 1894 horse barn, now named the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation Hall, with Center Director Amanda Brown as she showcases the unique hands-on learning experience and the work in which the student farmers are involved.  Also located at the Center is the Eversource/UMass Utility Arboretum, a unique educational and demonstration site that exhibits both good and bad planting practices surrounding utility wires.  The arboretum was conceived by alum Bob Allen of Eversource and UMass alum and world renowned tree expert Dr. Michael Dirr.  Join them for a demonstration of sustainable planting practices.
