Tuition and Fees
The cost of a UMass Amherst education includes tuition and required fees, as well as room and board if you live on campus. Rates are established in the spring for the following academic year. The Bursar's website has an explanation of all required fees.
In addition to tuition and fees, you will need to factor expenses for books and supplies into your academic costs. These will vary according to your field of study, but generally average $1000 for the academic year. Personal and transportation expenses usually range from $700 to $1,400 per year. We add these expenses to the costs above and use the total—a figure referred to as your “Cost of Attendance”—to determine your eligibility and need for financial aid.
