Volunteer Garden Coordinator
Organize all aspects of preparing for a garden to be planted, including but not limited to: communicating with our Dining Services Department; researching seeds; interactive presentations to executive staff on progress of garden; fundraising; budgeting; donations; soil management; seed starting; transplanting; resident involvement; managing beds in season; harvesting; expanding systems in place to ensure forward progress in sustainability. Currently Rockridge Retirement Community has approximately 23 raised beds within the Elmo Young Garden. These gardens are constantly evolving and an over arching goal is continual expansion. The mission of these gardens is to assist Rockridge in being a self-sustaining and life enriching community for current and future residents. All food harvested is utilized by our kitchen to feed both residents and staff.

Application Requirements (resume, cover letter, etc.):
Rockridge Volunteer Application, CORI check, and resume of garden knowledge and experience.
Knowledge of garden needs such as soil preparation, fertilization, diseases and pests, watering, and maintenance is required. Applicants must have the ability to shovel and rake soil, plant seeds and seedlings, weed, and cut herbs and produce. Must be friendly, patient, and dependable while working alongside our elder residents. Compassion and enthusiasm for gardening and people a must!
Wage, Salary & Benefits Description:
This volunteer position does not offer any financial compensation. However, the benefits of working in the soil, seeing food grow, becoming a part of the Rockridge family, and making lasting relationships with our residents are incalculable.
