Horticultural Internship (one year paid position)
Job Description: 
The Horticulture Department at Mount Auburn Cemetery will fund a twelve-month internship in 2017-2018. The position will provide training and experience to students or recent graduates seeking careers in botanic garden/arboretum management. Under the supervision of the Horticultural Curator and the Superintendent of Grounds, the intern will rotate through a variety of different crews including plant records & mapping, greenhouse propagation, nursery, experimental garden, arboriculture, gardening and general grounds maintenance. The particular interests and skills of the candidate will be used to structure the actual rotations and projects. Several planned field-trips to other public gardens are included. This internship will help with several important horticultural initiatives, such as exploring ecological sustainability in landscape operations, wildlife habitat enhancement, historic landscape preservation and plant production. Some of the work will be in our newly constructed greenhouse facility, which is phase-1 of what is tracking to be a LEED Platinum horticulture center. The work includes the use of BG-Base/BG-Map software.

Minimum Qualifications: 
Candidates for the position should have a strong background (academic and professional) in horticulture, and a familiarity with the temperate flora (USDA Zone 5-6) of eastern North America and Asia. The physical demands of this position include routinely lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, walking and standing for long periods of time and working outside in all seasons and variable weather conditions
Wage, Salary & Benefits Description: 
Wage is $17/hr. M-F with a 40hr. work week
