Business / Organization Name:
Edible Landscapes of Cape Cod
We currently work on about 2 acres of land, engaging in a variety of homestead and business-related activities. We are about to enter our 3rd year. Aside from growing produce, eggs, and goat milk for home consumption, we grow edible/medicinal/otherwise useful plants in our in-ground and greenhouse-based nursery. We sell these edible plants to customers of our garden installation business, at farmers' markets/plant sales, and plan to make more of an internet presence with our online nursery store. Plants in the nursery include perennial salad green crops, medicinal and culinary herbs, small fruit crops, annual vegetables, nitrogen fixers and pollinator attractors. We have one small hoophouse and another greenhouse lean-to. This farm is the home base of our business, Edible Landscapes of Cape Cod. During the growing season we are often busy installing gardens at clients' homes around Cape Cod and the South Shore. These garden installations include raised bed construction, permaculture-oriented designs, planting fruit and nut trees, herb gardens, etc. We also provide maintenance as part of our services. A lot of what we do is inspired by permaculture and regenerative/restoration agriculture. On our land and at our clients' properties, we strive to include intelligent ecological design, so there is opportunity to learn about this. We would like an intern to help us with daily chores (animals, watering), seeding and transplanting int he nursery, harvesting for market, seeding/planting, weeding, and maintaining the garden. There will be opportunity to take initiative and spearhead projects, as well as contributing to our blog, website, facebook page, marketing campaign, record keeping, and trial garden notes. This is an opportunity to witness a budding agricultural business take off. This is intended to be an educational internship. Compensation is negotiable, but will likely be a mixture of room, board and monies.
