DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is professional forestry work with wildlife management conducted in a natural and/or urban setting. In an urban environment, the work would involve public contact in regards to the condition of trees and other plants and/or animals on city property. In another environment, the work would involve the development, harvest and protection of timber stands, and game and wildlife management. It includes a substantial amount of time out of doors in the performance of duties. The work is performed under general considerable leeway permitted for the independent carrying out of details of assignments and projects. Direct supervision may be exercised over the work or a small labor force; does related work as required.

Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Forestry, Forest Management, or Biological Science with emphasis on Forestry or Natural Resources Management (minimum 15 credit hours); OR B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree in Forestry, Forest Management or Natural Resources Management (minimum 15 credit hours) and two (2) years of professional and/or technical experience in Forest Conservation or Natural Resource Management; OR C. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years full-time paid experience in Forest Conservation, Natural Resource Management or tree maintenance work including but not limited to: the care and removal of trees including felling, removal, spraying, trimming, cultivating, transplanting and pruning; OR D. An equivalent combination of training and experience as described above. (College credit may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis with 30 credit hours equivalent to one (1) year of experience)
Wage, Salary & Benefits Description:
